Eurocargo Benefits

The versatility and robustness of those who can deal with all the mission.

Eurocargo: the most suitable truck for every application - thanks to sound engineering, great manoeuvrability and a range that is unparalleled.

With the Eurocargo, Iveco offers customers and bodybuilders a custom made vehicle for any transport requirement in the middleweight sector.

The secret of the Eurocargo's success lies in its versatility:

It is easy to drive, even in city centres thanks to a compact cab, an excellent steering angle (52 degrees) and a tight turning circle (starting from just over 11 m between kerbs); - at the same time it offers excellent performance on long trips or on particularly difficult missions (up to 300 HP and 1,050 Nm of torque).

The Eurocargo is also a reference point in its category for its chassis.

?The structure (strong high tensile longitudinal steel beams) is completely flat and free from obstructions and allows body lengths from 4,135 to 10,550 mm.

This enables the Eurocargo to be easily adapted for any type of mission: from urban delivery to construction site work, from goods transport to municipal services.

The Eurocargo is a vehicle which was born to be profitable, reliable and long-lasting.

Eurocargo Comfort

Everything under control.

Eurocargo adopts a strong high tensile steel chassis which is completely flat and free from obstructions and permits body lengths from 4,135 to 10,550 mm.

Eurocargo offers a wide choice of cabs, characterised by easy accessibility (1 or 2 steps depending on the version) illuminated with spot lights. Anyone who climbs into the cab want to have everything under control and wants to feel that the vehicle was designed for his or her needs. In order to improve functionality in urban missions, the Eurocargo adopts solutions which make cross cab access easier:

  • Low engine tunnel
  • Conveniently positioned park brake control ?

The driving area is ergonomically designed: 470mm steering wheel, adjustable steering column, central instrument cluster and central module. The ergonomic driving position also permits easy access to accessory controls.

The dashboard places everything within easy reach of the driver, who never has to take the attention off the road.

The air conditioning/heating system (as standard) makes it possible to achieve the desired temperature in just a few seconds as well as optimum air distribution.

The quality of finish and materials give the Eurocargo cab a touch of elegant functionality, and the excellent soundproofing makes it an ideal work environment.

The ideal cab size.

2 different types of cabs are available on the Eurocargo 4x4:?

  • Day - For short to mid range missions.
  • Sleeper - For longer range missions and situations, when a large internal volume for maximum comfort and convenience is required, Quality of life on board is extremely high: Eurocargo 4x4 is equipped with easy clean comfortable seats covered in vinyl.

For the sleeper cab versions, Eurocargo 4x4 offers bunks that are designed for maximum comfort.

Eurocargo Chassis & Suspension

Frames and suspensions of the Eurocargo truck

Eurocargo adopts a strong high tensile steel chassis which is completely flat and free from obstructions and permits body lengths from 4,135 to 10,550 mm.

The highly flexible galvanised steel cab, resistant to knocks, wear and tear and corrosion:

This makes the cab of the Eurocargo not only highly reliable structurally, but also a safe and protective environment for the driver and passengers.

Eurocargo suspensions can be parabolic or multileaf steel springs, and rear air or full air with an ECAS (Electronically - Controlled Air Suspension) system to electronically adjust the frame height.

The wide choice of options permits "tailor-made" configurations to be developed for specific missions and for the most frequent routes, ensuring safety and comfort in any road surface condition.

Eurocargo Power Train

The Eurocargo truck and the Tector Common Rail turbocharged engines with waste-gate turbochargers.

Thanks to the Tector Common Rail turbocharged engines with waste-gates, the Eurocargo has one of the lowest fuel consumption in its category.

The 300HP Tector engines are available with EEV (Enhanced Environmentally-Friendly Vehicles) engines.

In addition the SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction via the use of AdBlue additive) technology, adopted by Iveco on its entire medium to heavy range of vehicles, contributes to lower operating costs (with 5% lower fuel consumption).

The Tector engine range offers low weight, requires less frequent maintenance and guarantees greater reliability. In fact, unlike EGR, SCR does not involve recirculation of hot exhaust gas back into the combustion chamber. The performance of Tector engines is at the absolute top of its class, due to characteristics of excellence such as:

The best torque to displacement ratio.

Greater flexibilitythe maximum torque is available at low rpm (max torque as low as 1,200 rpm) and is constant over a wide rev range. This guarantees smooth running, fewer gear changes and greater efficiency; reduced operating costs.

Automated Eurotronic 6 speed transmissions with steering column controls in order to increase driving comfort and at the same time optimise consumption, manual 5, 6 and 9 speed transmissions with calibrated synchronisation to guarantee maximum ease of gear engagement, and automatic transmissions for simpler driving in the city where "stop & go" is the norm.

Automated and manual transmissions are combined with "push type" clutches and with optional electronically activated power take-offs (max torque capacity 1,000 Nm).

On the Eurocargo engines an exhaust brake is also standard, with a butterfly valve in the exhaust manifold. This valve creates exhaust gas back-pressure which is useful for slowing down the engine and increasing braking power. The use of the exhaust brake cuts use of the service brake and therefore reduces brake wear. The mode of operation (on application of the footbrake or when lifting off the accelerator) can be selected by the driver.

More torque, less consumption, high reliability.

The turbocharger controlled by a waste-gate valve limits pressure even at low rpm, optimising torque and fuel consumption. The limitation of pressure is essential for mechanical protection of the engine and the turbo. The waste-gate system permits turbo boost pressure to be kept constant, whilst allowing gradual pressure relief in certain conditions. It is this exhaust gas pressure which, having reached predetermined levels, opens a valve in the exhaust manifold. This permits by-pass of the gases before they impact on the turbo.

The Eurocargo Truck manual transmissions.

The proven and respected ZF transmissions, lightweight and with excellent performance, help to increase vehicle payload. Precise operation on the synchronisers guarantees ease of engagement in all transmission configurations (6 and 9 speed). Maintenance intervals are 120,000 km - thanks in part to the new semi-synthetic oil made especially for the Eurocargo.

The Eurocargo Truck automated transmissions.

The Eurotronic automated 6 speed transmissions, (manufactured by ZF), with electronic control of the clutch is available on the 18T, and offers high driving comfort and numerous advantages for the driver and operator. In fact, the automated logic applies the principles of economic driving to the ideal gear ratio choice, to protect the transmission against over speeding, reduce clutch wear, fuel consumption and noise emissions. The transmission can be used in manual mode via the selector located on the right-hand steering column stalk.

The Eurocargo Truck automatic transmission.

The Allison automatic transmissions are available only on 18 t model. The torque converter integrated in the transmission guarantees a high level of driving comfort. They are ideal for urban missions such as refuse collection and door to door delivery.

Eurocargo History

The history of the Eurocargo truck.

The Eurocargo has won more awards than any other truck in the history of middleweight goods transport and over the years it has become the benchmark in Europe within its category.

The Eurocargo is the worthy heir of a series of models which have made history in the segment.

Some preceded the founding of Iveco:

First the OM Lupetto, which in the 60's, carried goods in Italy that was still agricultural but was then launched on the road to industrialisation and modernity. In fact, the Lupetto, launched in 1959, marked the entrance of Italy into the economic boom.

In 1977 the Lupetto passed the baton to the Iveco Zeta range. An extremely innovative project for those times, the Zeta was able to satisfy all of the mid-light transport needs from 2500 to 6500 kg. ?

The fundamental step for the evolution of this segment took place with the introduction in 1987 of the turbo engine: in fact, the launch advertising slogan was: “TurboZeta. The best, improved”.

Just a few years later the Eurocargo arrived: it was 1991, and the new vehicle represented a true revolution. Quality and great component standardisation made more than 500 versions possible, able to meet the needs of any transport mission.

In 1992 Eurocargo won the Truck of the Year award, chronologically the first of numerous trade press awards.

After the restyling in 2003 and the launch of the new Euro 4/5 engines in 2006, the Eurocargo was re-introduced in 2008 in its current form with a completely refreshed cab range and a design in line with the new Iveco family feeling.
